Knitted Nesting Cone, Small, Natural Fibers, Great Bird Watcher Gift, Bird Watching, Garden Gift, Earth Day, Easter, Mother's Day

Only 1 available

Give your neighborhood birds another reason to visit you :D This small cone is knit out of heavy duty garden jute and filled with wool for Winter nesting. It is bottomless and has "holes" in it where the birds can pull from it to gather their materials. We live in such a cold, cold climate and Laura has been throwing her waste wool out side for years to share with the birds. The nests close by can get quite colorful as a result--it's delightful!

This is a wonderful gift for the birdwatcher or wool artist and crafter in your life. Comes with a big puff of wool, which you can then replenish with any kinds of natural materials. We hung this one on the fence for photographing, but we recommending hanging in a more protected spot, like a tree.

Eventually, the jute itself will degrade (This will take a very long time!) and the birds will use it to build their nests as well. It's perfectly environmentally friendly!

This small version (we're planning larger ones) would make the perfect wedding favor for an outdoor wedding. We can make even smaller ones and create a bulk listing if you like. Convo for more info :)

Packaged in biodegradable cello bags and mailed in either recycled or biodegradable mailers.

Included in this listing:
One, hand knit 4-5" tall nesting cone with 5" hanger
Handful of nesting materials, choose your favorite *
-- white wool
-- brown wool
-- grey wool
-- white alpaca
-- brown alpaca
-- black alpaca
-- waste wool **

Ornithologists recommend wool and other animal hair, yarn and cloth remnants of cloth, twigs, straw and other natural materials as nesting materials. It's a blast to watch them pick and choose!
Visit and to learn more about your bird neighbors :D

*All wool, alpaca used/sent for this purpose may have minor vegetable matter, but is scoured and
clean otherwise. VM is actually helpful in this context :D

**This is truly our waste wool/fiber. It is multicolored, may have sparkles, yarn bits in it
as well as vegetable matter. It may look "dirty" to you, but is ideal for this use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wholesale availability

We have a handful of wholesale accounts, but at this time, we are not looking for more. We thank you for your interest :)

Custom and personalized orders

The ability to customize, personalize orders is the number one reason we work mostly on a "made to order" basis. We want you to have everything just as you need/want it! We understand that this makes our shipping times slower, but we hope you will agree that we are worth the wait :)

Does your roving come in one, continuous piece?

Not always. Let us know if this is important, and we will make it happen.

Why is the shipping so high? Can you fix it?

It's a long, convoluted answer having to do with the fact that we offer variations of weight in our batts and other items. We pay the extra shipping on larger batts, but we have no way of setting the shipping lower on the sample sizes, so we have to meet somewhere in the middle --which is often WAY too much if you are ordering a quantity of sample batts.

And yes. We can fix it, just message us. Or.. check out and leave us a note reminding us to refund your excess shipping. Either way, we understand. We hate overpaying for shipping too :D

You forgot my felting needles. Will you send them?

If we forgot them, of course we will :D

But first... take a peek on the side of the foam. 99.99% of the time, they are there, just overlooked.

Why does it take 3-5 days to mail a batt?

We dye a very large proportion (80-90%!!) of our wool, Firestar and Silk. We're really proud of the number of colors we offer-- and we only have plans to do more. We do this because it the work we love to do, it's one of many things that we think make our work worthwhile, special. Additionally, we do not want our batts sitting in inventory, compacting from lack of use. And then... what if you want to customize the batt? We do that too :D

We make our batts to order because we make them for you. We think they are worth the wait and hope that you will too. Naturally, if you need something faster, let us know. We work magic, that's what we do :D
