We get asked -- all the time -- "What do you do with this yarn?", " What do you do when you don't have hundreds of yards in a skein" Let us answer that. It's what we do ;)
In answer to the first question, we always answer, "Almost anything that you can do with yarn--but BIGGER!" Seriously. We have clients that knit scarves, shawls sweaters, hats, use it for baby props, doll hair, baskets, crochet bags, and, of course.. weave, with these yarns--the sky, or rather, your imagination, is the limit.
Working with thick and thin yarn can be somewhat odd at first, but pays off richly in terms of texture and interest. The simplest of designs can be made very dramatic by the selection of a yarn like this--this is a "yarn for yarn's sake" adventure.
Is there anything for which you might avoid using this yarn? Sure. It would make a terrible pair of socks ;)

A few tidbits about our process and using this yarn that you may find useful....
We're cat, dog and bunny friendly people, but know that we have a brick and mortar studio where our fibers are stored and prepped. Often, Scout, our Border Collie, goes with us to work, but she has her own toys that do not include any of the fiber that is stored in plastic containers. ;)
We often ship our yarns and fibers with a lavender, cedar and/or rose sachet. Please let us know if your allergies are an issue. :D
We bathe all our handspun and handpainted yarns in our secret formula (We're both ex-hairdressers with trade secrets!) as part of setting the spin. We also, literally shower (Really. In a shower, with a rain head :) all our yarns and fibers until the water runs clear. Differences in your water, temperature, as well as body chemistry can cause minor discolorations in your rinse waters. This should not affect the final product and is not cause for alarm.
We do our very best to represent our colors and textures, photographing them in a light box, in sunlight, with/without flash... Having said that, we hope that you'll understand that there are so many variables that will affect what you see (including monitors, climate and individual perception) and that some differences occur.
When your new yarn arrives, it may have compacted from shipping. Open the skein, hold on one end and thwack it over an upholstered surface ( we mean chair or sofa :) to fluff it up again. We store our yarns hung on racks to prevent extended compaction wear. Your finished product should be dry-cleaned or *gently* submerged in cold water and wool wash (Never, ever Woolite. As in.. never.) and left to drain until most of the water weight is released into a sink before handling in any way. We recommend Kookaburra Wash or Delicate.

Custom and personalized orders
The ability to customize, personalize orders is the number one reason we work mostly on a "made to order" basis. We want you to have everything just as you need/want it! We understand that this makes our shipping times slower, but we hope you will agree that we are worth the wait :)
Does your roving come in one, continuous piece?
Not always. Let us know if this is important, and we will make it happen.
Why is the shipping so high? Can you fix it?
It's a long, convoluted answer having to do with the fact that we offer variations of weight in our batts and other items. We pay the extra shipping on larger batts, but we have no way of setting the shipping lower on the sample sizes, so we have to meet somewhere in the middle --which is often WAY too much if you are ordering a quantity of sample batts.
And yes. We can fix it, just message us. Or.. check out and leave us a note reminding us to refund your excess shipping. Either way, we understand. We hate overpaying for shipping too :D
You forgot my felting needles. Will you send them?
If we forgot them, of course we will :D
But first... take a peek on the side of the foam. 99.99% of the time, they are there, just overlooked.
Why does it take 10-14 days to mail a batt?
We dye a very large proportion (60-75%!!) of our wool, Firestar and Silk. We're really proud of the number of colors we offer-- and we only have plans to do more. We do this because it the work we love to do, it's one of many things that we think make our work worthwhile, special. Additionally, we do not want our batts sitting in inventory, compacting from lack of use. And then... what if you want to customize the batt? We do that too :D
We make our batts to order because we make them for you— and we make a LOT of them, so there is usually a line when you order as well. We think they are worth the wait and hope that you will too. Naturally, if you need something faster, let us know. We work magic, that's what we do :D
